As part of the CERI cooperation, Professor Wirsum visited the BP Clean Energy Research and Education Center at Tsinghua University in Beijing recently.

The workshop was opened with presentations from Professor Wirsum and Professor Li about current topics in the field of energy technology in China and Germany. The main focus was on the necessity of CO2 emission reduction in the energy sector, for which different technological approaches were introduced and discussed. In addition, research assistants of both institutes presented current studies on this topic.

The identification of similarities as well as differences between China and Germany was of special intereast during the workshop, since the energy supply systems of both countries are traditionally based on fossil fuels but are currently in a strong transition. As part of joint research topics, different technological approaches of reducing CO2 emissions will be investigated including studies on the potential appliation of these technologies in both countries.
